Jordan>Tourism>2005/2004>g=8.3%, 11% of GDP

(s)Economic Bulletin as at 3/30/2006 Jordan's tourism sector witnessed a growth of 8.3% in 2005 generating a total of JOD 1.02 bn in revenues and attracting a tourist base of 5.8 mn visitors. Now, the sector has established itself as a key driver of the economy, according to figures released by the ministry of tourism and antiquities (MOTA). "Tourism is the largest single industry in Jordan. It contributes over 11% of the country's GDP and is the largest earner of foreign exchange of any productive sector in Jordan," Haidar Qussous, director of information and statistics at the MOTA, said.
